The Computer Science Cohort worked together to identify goals for our computer science program.
Strengthen overall literacy and math programming through integration of computer science.
Build interest for all students, but especially our female and minority students, in computer science.
Increase student readiness for computer science and other STEM careers.
Strengthen community and business partnerships through active, problem based engagement.
Increase PK-3 enrollment by building an exemplary computer science program which will maintain our current enrollment numbers and draw in additional students.
Increase teacher capacity for teaching and integrating computer science.
Our district goals directly support the CSE Goals in these ways:
All students will learn through a rigorous curriculum with an emphasis on higher-order thinking skills in order to solve complex problems.
All students will be prepared with the necessary life and social skills for success after graduation.
We have measurements to go with our goals. Some of the measurements have been delayed by the Covid shutdown. We will be giving an end-of-the-year survey to students in place of comparison data for goal one, since we no longer have students that aren't receiving computer science instruction in our elementary schools. What a great "problem" to have!
Measurements:
Goal 1 - Assessment data in reading, writing, and math...particularly as it compares to students not participating in computer science. (N/A due to COVID interruption and all students receiving computer science instructions now.) Updated to an end-of-year student survey
Goals 2 and 3 - Middle school interest survey and high school course enrollment data, looking especially at subgroups by gender and ethnicity to measure interest and readiness for careers in computer science.
Goal 4 - Number of local businesses and industries that engage in project-based learning with our program students as well as the results of survey evaluation.
Goal 5 - Enrollment and open enrollment trends
Goal 6 - Teacher survey on CS instruction and integration
