Curriculum and Materials Selection and Refinement
Alignment to Iowa's CS Standards
Alignment to Iowa's CS Standards
We are using CS in SF Creative Computing Curriculum and Code .org for Kindergarten through Second Grade. The CS in SF curriculum is divided by grade level, with each level having a designated color. Kindergarten is using the Red level, First Grade is using Orange, and Second Grade is using Yellow. Third Grade is using Code.org, Course D. We also supplement with Scratch, Scratch Jr., and Kodable.
These decisions were made after the committee reviewed different curriculums and looked at connections with the CSTA Standards. We did a crosswalk with the standards and the CS in SF curriculum. Grade level teachers also had collaboration time around the standards and identified a computer science priority standard for each grade level.
The first device purchases we made were ones that supported the CS in SF curriculum and items that we thought would lend themselves to multiple uses for integration. Some of these purchases were Bee Bots, Blue Bots, iPads, Osmo, Osmo coding kits, Code & Go Mice, clear pocket Bee Bot mats, Twister mats, Hello Ruby books, and trade books that connected to the curriculum.
On this page, you will find our curriculum and materials, information about standalone computer science or embedded, and alignment to Iowa's Computer Science Standards.
Alignment to Iowa's Computer Science Standards
The CS in SF Curriculum uses the California Computer Science Standards. We did a crosswalk between the Iowa Computer Science Standards and the California Computer Science Standards.
