The word "Holism" can conjure up many different images, depending on our beliefs and values. This is how Five Sparrows addresses holism:
Take a moment to look at the graphic on the left.
Biological: the range of physiological functions of our bodies, including genetics, hormones, health etc.
Psychological: the sense of well-being and balance in our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Social: our connections with others in various settings, including culture.
Spiritual: refers to what gives our lives a deep sense of meaning and purpose.
We share common needs as humans, such as our need for food, water and shelter. But each person also has a unique blend of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. These needs interact with each other throughout our lives and are also influenced by our various environments, such as family, school, work, neighbourhoods, various community groups, and the list could continue. There are many aspects to our lives.
We also take on different roles throughout our lives such as child, daughter, son, brother, sister, cousin, friend, neighbour, adult, parent, aunt, uncle, grand parent, voter, various job titles, and so on. We wear many different hats daily and throughout our lives.
Holism: The Five Sparrow Viewpoint
We have so many different parts to our lives, and this is why the concept of Holism is important. We are greater than the sum of our parts.
Holism is about the sense of balance and unity within, where our thoughts, feelings and actions flow and balance us as we engage in our lives.
There are many aspects in our lives, but we are greater than the sum of these parts. Holism means that we are complete, balanced, flowing constructively within ourselves and with our various environments.
Five Sparrows aims to support people to find their balance and flow, in whatever goal is important to them.
