Permission to Drive on Campus
Students enrolled at the Early College reach a point during their tenure where they would like to be able to drive their private vehicles to school with the ability to park unabated on campus. The ability to drive on campus is a privileged that is earned through hard work academically and observing the rules and policies set forth by the institution. The procedures outlined in this policy will be used to determine the eligibility, rights to park on campus, and consequences if infractions occur. Since there are a limited number of parking spaces, parking decals will be sold in order to respect the seniority and needs of our students. Super Seniors will have first priority, with Seniors second, and Juniors will have the remaining slots.
During the first week of school, Super Seniors will have the opportunity to buy their decals. After that week, Seniors will have their time to secure their decal, and following them, the Juniors will have their opportunity to buy a decal. If a Super Senior or Senior fail to buy their decal during their allowed time, they must wait until each group has had the opportunity to purchase their decal. Afterwards, it will be first come, first served.
Eligibility: Students are eligible to drive on campus the beginning of their junior year. They must have earned the academic credits to be considered a Junior at the beginning of their Junior year, with an unweighted grade point average of 2.0 or above. The GPA of 2.0 or above must be maintained throughout the duration of the student’s eligibility. If a student’s GPA falls below the required 2.0, the student will not be eligible to drive for the remainder of the semester or until the required GPA is obtained
Process: Once a student is eligible to drive on campus and wishes to exercise this privilege, they must seek an application from the principal and ensure they are familiar with the rules and procedures to drive on campus. The student and the parents then complete the application and return it to the principal, who will issue them a parking decal. This decal is good for one school year and must be renewed each school year.
Transferring of Decal: A decal cannot be transferred from one student to another for any reason. If a student wishes to obtain parking decals, they must submit their own application and pay the appropriate fees.
Suspension: A student’s parking privilege may be suspended for violating any rule contained in the parking permission application. The suspension may be for a number of days or termination, depending on the infraction and the frequency/number of offenses. The suspension is to include not maintaining the appropriate academic status.
Termination: If there are continuous infractions and a student fails to maintain the appropriate academic status, they may have their driving privileges terminated. In this case, the student may appeal this ruling to the principal within five days of the termination. The student may present evidence or rationale of why their driving privileges should be reinstated.
Fee: FREE
If a student parks their car on campus when their driving privilege has been suspended or terminated, they will be subject to administrative action.
