It will be the responsibility of the parent to provide transportation to and from the Early College.
All students shall follow the directions of the bus driver for loading and unloading the bus, seating assignments, and general conduct. The safety of the driver and passengers is of the utmost importance. The following rules and regulations shall be enforced in regards to bus safety. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in temporary or permanent removal of a student from the bus and/or disciplinary consequences such as ISS or OSS. Unloading occurs in the midsection of VGCC parking lot and students must use the crosswalk to safely walk over the the building and the same need to occur when leaving ECHS building and reporting to the bus.
School buses are state property and are the means of transportation provided by the state. Riding the bus is a privilege and not an inherent right. Students may lose this privilege by violating bus conduct rules. The bus driver has full authority over all students riding his/her bus. Students who ride the buses are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly manner. The school principal has the authority to suspend students from riding the bus for the following infractions as well as any others announced during the year:
Students are allowed to board and depart from the bus only at their designated stop.
Students are responsible for being at their designated stop on time to meet the bus. Students should be at the stop at least 15 minutes prior to the designated stop time. Drivers are not required to wait for students that are not physically present at the designated stop when the bus arrives.
School rules are in effect at bus stops and on the bus both to and from school. This includes, but is not limited to fighting, use of profanity, possession of tobacco products, possession of drugs or alcohol, possession of weapons (including cigarette lighters), and vandalism.
While on the bus, students are to observe the same standards of behavior as in the classroom.
Behavior that in any way endangers or could possibly endanger the safety of the driver or passengers is prohibited.
Except when boarding and departing, students must remain seated at all times while on the bus.
If you have a need to depart from the bus at a stop different from the one you are assigned, or if you need to ride a bus different from the one you are assigned, you must present a signed note from your parent/guardian. This note must be submitted to the office for approval by the assistant principal no later than lunch time. Notes presented for approval during the bus loading time will be denied. Notes must be verbally verified with a parent or guardian by an administrator before approval will be issued.
Any action that disturbs or distracts the driver, or refusing to obey the instructions of the driver or other school officials is prohibited.
Paper and other objects should not be thrown about in the bus or out of the windows.
Passengers should not hold their hands, arms, head, or other body parts out of the bus window, nor should any object be held out of the window.
Passengers should not shout or wave to persons outside of the bus.
Eating and drinking is not allowed on the bus.
The aisle should be kept clear of personal belongings. These items should be either held or placed under the seat.
Any type of electronic device is not allowed on the bus.
The bus loading/departure area at the school is restricted to those students that are riding the bus. No other students are allowed to congregate in this area. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in disciplinary action.
Transportation to and from the Early College
Express Service: This service is provided to lessen the burden of parents having to bring their student to the Early College, but normal bus schedule will start when traditional schools open. Franklin County Schools Transportation Department will provide a schedule for pick-up and drop-off times during this period. It provides drop-off and pick-up points at the school closest to the student’s residence.
Mornings
Students assigned to the Early College will ride the bus they would normally ride to the high school in their attendance zone. From this location they will be transported by shuttle from the high school in their attendance zone to the Franklin County Early College High.
Afternoons
A school bus will transport Early College students from the Early College back to the middle school in their attendance zone, where they will board a school bus that will transport them to their places of residence.
High school students should understand that their conduct is expected to be beyond reproach while on any Franklin County School campus. Any breach/infraction of any rule may result in disciplinary action being taken against them.
There may be days when FCECHS and Franklin County Schools are not in session but VGCC continues to conduct class. School buses will not run on those dates unless otherwise stated. It will be the responsibility of the parent to ensure transportation is provided for their student.
