Math Facts
Facts are important! They are the main connection between many other skills in math. Children in grades K-3 should practice their facts at least 30 minutes a week at home. ALL facts; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, should be mastered by the end of 3rd grade. Multiplication and division is introduced in 3rd grade. Fourth and fifth graders should continue to practice their facts, so they remain fluent. Fluent students are able to recall a fact in 3 seconds or less. This may not mean they are memorizing them but that they can use number sense to figure the fact out quickly.
