Math at Lincoln Elementary School

Win Small... Win Often... All day... Every Day!

Welcome to our LNES Math site. We know in these current times that our families need support more now than ever as we embark on distance learning together. We want to ease your fears about how to help your child with math.

Our goal with this site is to provide resources to help support you and your child with their math learning.

Please feel free to reach out to any of us on the Math Team with questions or for support.

Our Goals:

  • Share ideas and resources of things you can do with your child at home to extend his/her math thinking.

  • Provide video clips of strategies that we are teaching to be support to you and your child.

  • Provide resources you can use to better understand how and what we are teaching.

  • Challenge Tasks for students looking for extra math practice.

  • Highlight some of the great thinking and hard work by our LNES students.

Michele Pickens

Math Specialist

I am excited to begin my 13th year at Lincoln and 28th year as an FCPS teacher. I am the intermediate math specialist assigned to grades 3, 4, and 5. Prior to coming to Lincoln, I was an elementary math teacher specialist at central office traveling to different schools to support math instruction across FCPS. I began my teaching career as a special education teacher at North Frederick Elementary School.

Originally, I am from a small town in West Virginia along the Ohio River. I moved to Frederick over 35 years ago and graduated from Frederick High School. Go Cadets! I have an associate degree from Frederick Community College, a bachelor degree from Frostburg State University, a master's degree from Hood College, and an endorsement as an Elementary Mathematics Instructional Leader from McDaniel College.

I enjoy teaching mathematics and challenging students to persevere in problem solving by using what they know to solve problems they find as challenging. I believe all students can learn mathematics and share their strategies.

Amy Jandovitz

Math Intervention Teacher

My name is Amy Jandovitz, and I am a graduate of Towson University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree from Walden University in Curriculum Instruction with a focus in STEM. Prior to becoming a math intervention teacher, I taught 5th grade for 8 years at Lincoln Elementary!

I am from Frederick, MD and a graduate of FCPS. When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling, hiking, playing sports and cheering on the Washington Commanders!

My primary goal this year is to teach the fundamentals of math and help students grow as individuals. Math is very rewarding to teach as students find multiple ways to solve problems and explain their thinking. I will assist the students in any way needed. I’m fairly certain I will learn just as much from them as they will from me. I am looking forward to another year with amazing Panthers!

Ginny Rinehart

Math Specialist

I am excited to be at Lincoln for a 4th year, which will be my 15th year as a teacher in Frederick County. I am the Primary Math Specialist for grades PreK-2. I had the pleasure of teaching almost every elementary grade before becoming a math specialist. This experience helps me to connect with teachers and students at all levels.

I graduated from Washington College and received my Master's degree from McDaniel College in Elementary Mathematics Instructional Leadership.

I grew up in Frederick County and still call it my home today. I am an avid Ravens and Orioles fan.

I love teaching math and strive to help others in their path to understanding and becoming "a math person". I always tell the kids, "It's okay if you don't like math right now but I hope you like it a little more when we are done."

Beth Cangemi

Math Intervention Teacher

I am very excited for my 3rd year here with the Lincoln community. This is my 17th year as a teacher. I graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Inclusive Elementary Education and received my Master's degree from the State University at Brockport. I taught 6 years at Ballenger Creek Elementary School. Five of those years were as a math intervention teacher and I also taught 2nd grade. My teaching career also includes teaching 4th grade in both New York and Texas and preschool here in Frederick.

Originally from a small island in New York, Frederick has been my home since 2006. When not teaching, I enjoy being outside, running, hiking, playing basketball or camping with my husband, our two kids and our dog Reilly. We also spend a lot of time cheering our kids on at their sporting events or rooting for our favorite teams. Go Bills and Sabres!

Math is by far my favorite subject to teach because I love watching the different ways that kids approach their math thinking and all the different ways we can solve problems. I love watching students challenge themselves and grow their math minds. Math can be challenging but with hard work, perseverance and a CAN do attitude, growth can happen!
