HONOR CORD REQUIREMENTS

Please fill out the following application if you believe you are eligible for an honor cord in any department.  Use one application for each department in which you are applying for an honor cord.  Specify the department on the line provided.   You must attach an unofficial high school transcript.  These can be obtained from Mrs. Hughes.  Applications will be reviewed by each department for qualification. Return this form to the FHS Counseling Center by Friday, April, 2025.  These applications will go to the respective department chairs the week of April 7, 2025.  Students need to inquire directly with and receive honor cords directly from department chairs beginning Monday, May 5, 2025.  Honor Cord Application 24-25

Farmington High School

HONOR CORD REQUIREMENTS

AGRICULTURE:  (MAIZE CORD)

• Currently enrolled in FFA

• Completed 2 years of Agriculture

• Filled out State FFA degree or proficiency award, or competed on a CDE or LDE

• No AG Grade lower than a B

BANK: (NAVY AND BURGUNDY CORD)

• Work in the Black Knight Branch of First State Bank

BKTV Studios:  (RED & GOLD) 

• Red: Completed 3-4 years and/or 2 years in a leadership position

• Red and Gold:  Completed 6-8 years and/or 3 years in a leadership position (Journalism and TV combined)

• No grade lower than a B

• Free of discipline problems in BKTV Studios Classes

BIO-MEDICAL: (BURGUNDY AND NAVY CORD)

• Must complete 4 years in the Biomedical Program at Farmington High School.

• Minimum combined grade of A (90% or higher)

NOTE:  The only exception is PBS (the substituted Biology course for Biomed students).Any class used to meet another honor cord requirement may not be used for Bio-medical and vice versa.

BLOOD DRIVE:  (RED CORD)

• Must participate in 3 blood drives during senior year.  See Mrs. Roth.

BUSINESS:  (DRAB CORD)

• Earned minimum of 6 semesters of business classes earning a grade of at least A-

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

• Must have been a member of FBLA at least one year and participated in competitive events at least once

NOTE:  Any class used to meet another honor cord requirement may not be used for Business and vice versa.

CDA PROGRAM: (PURPLE AND WHITE)

• Completion of two year program through Mineral Area College

COLLEGE:  MAC ASSOCIATES DEGREE HONOR CORD: (CRIMSON) 

Automatic! We will receive a list from MAC of students who qualify.

COMPUTER SCIENCE PATHWAY:  (SILVER CORD)

• Successfully completed 2 PLTW Computer Science Classes with a grade of “A”.

CNA: (RED AND WHITE)

• Completion of the Farmington High School Certified Nursing Assistant Program

• Be recommended by CNA Instructor

• Must successfully pass state certification exam

DRAMA:  (BLACK & WHITE CORD)

• Must participate in 5 FHS Theatre productions, or provide documentation of other productions outside of FHS.

• Complete 4 semesters of the following courses (Drama, Adv. Drama, College Public Speaking, Cinema and Literature, Stage Makeup, and summer production)

• Be a member of good standing with FHS Theatre Guild

• No discipline issues

• GPA 3.0

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS:   (ORANGE CORD)

• Complete 10 semesters of English courses with no grade below an A- or

• Complete 8 semesters of English courses with no grade below an A- and at least two college-level English courses

NOTE:  any class used to meet Drama honor cord requirements may not be used for ELA honor cords.

ENGINEERING PATHWAY:  (BLACK & GOLD CORD)

• Successfully completed Engineering Design and Development (EDD) with a grade of “A”.

FAMILY/CONSUMER SCIENCES:  (PURPLE CORD)

• Completed 4 classes prior to last semester (excluding health and personal finance)

• No grade lower than A-

FCCLA:(Red/White Cord)

*Take 4 classes in the FCS program (not including health and personal finance) and have no grade lower than an A-

*Participate in a competitive event (Star events, etc...)

*No ISS/OSS discipline throughout their school years.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE:  (ROYAL BLUE CORD)

• 3 years of the same language( i.e. 3 years of Spanish or 3 years of French)

• No semester grade lower than A-

HEALTH SCIENCES III: (PURPLE)

• Must complete all 3 classes

• Minimum grade of A-

• Recommended by the instructor

JAG (RED, WHITE AND BLUE)

• Must have taken JAG both junior and senior years.

• Must complete at least 10 service hours per year. 

JUNIOR ROTC:  (ROYAL BLUE/WHISPER GRAY CORD)

• An A- average in JROTC and 3.0 overall GPA 

• Member of JROTC for three years

• Recommended by SASI and/or ASI (cords will be selected and distributed by Col Sparks & SMSgt Heflin)

MATH:  (GOLD YELLOW CORD)

• Must have completed four semesters of college level math with a grade of A- or higher.

MUSIC:  (PINK CORD)

• Participate in an MMEA District-level honor ensemble or MSHSAA  solo/ensemble contests for 2 of 4 years in high school; one of the two years must be in senior year.

• No grade lower than A- during the last 2 years in music class

• Must have been in band/choir 3 of 4 years

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  (MAROON CORD)

• 5 semesters of PE (does not include Fit for Life)

• No grade lower than A- in any PE class

SCIENCE:  (DARK GREEN CORD)

• 10 Semesters of science (must include one of the following, College Chemistry, Physics or College Biology)

• No semester grade lower than A- in any science course.

NOTE:  Any class used to meet another honor cord requirement may not be used for Science and vice versa.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  (LIGHT BLUE CORD)

• Minimum of 8 semesters of social studies

• No grade less than A- in any social studies course

• Completion of five out of the following nine classes taken at Farmington High School:  College American History 1, College American History 2, College World Civ 1, College World Civ 2, College Government, College Psychology, College Sociology, College Philosophy, or College World Religions

UNITEC HONOR CORD: (GREEN CORD)

• No grades lower than A-

• Completion of 2 years of program

VISUAL ARTS:  (WHITE CORD) 

• Completed minimum of 6 visual art classes before final semester

• Completed A- average (or better) in at least 6 visual art classes

YEARBOOK:  (RED CORD)

• 8 semesters of yearbook

• 1 year in a leadership position

• No grade lower than A-

• Recommended by sponsor
