During the course of the year, the Board of Education, superintendent, principal, or athletic administrators may call a meeting of a professional nature. When such a meeting is called, the appropriate coaches must be in attendance for the entire session. If the entire coaching staff is involved, the athletic activities must be adjusted.
Coaches must attend building staff meetings unless they have made arrangements with their building administrator.
If head coaches miss the required rules interpretation meetings, he/she will be required to pay the assessed fine.
Coaches are encouraged to attend professional meetings (coaching schools, clinics, etc.).
The NDHSCA’s (North Dakota High School Coaches Association) annual convention is recommended by the Fargo Public Schools as a professional development opportunity for athletic coaches. The registration, which includes membership dues, for the summer convention will be paid by the Fargo Public Schools. Those who do not attend the conference will have their membership dues subsidized at 50% paid by Fargo Public Schools. The remainder will be paid by the individual coach. In some cases, in-service/graduate credit may be earned for such attendance.
With the approval of the principal, a head coach may be absent from teaching duties without loss of pay to attend a professional growth activity. Assistant coaches will be allowed contract days for similar growth activities.
Head coaches, whose team has not qualified for the North Dakota State Tournament in his/her activity, may be allowed up to two days of absence from school to attend coaches meetings and other activities associated with the event.
In the event a staff member is assigned coaching responsibilities, the clinic attendance provisions cited above may be used for one sport only during a particular school year.
Requests to attend clinics must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the intended clinic to the principal’s office, and subsequently to the district activity office for final approval.

Head coaches will be given consideration to attend a regional coaching clinic.
The Board of Education policy concerning attendance at professional meetings
The availability of school or school district funds.
If the clinic is during school time and approved by the administration, expenses may be subsidized through other resources in the event that school or school district funds are not available.
