Meet the Authors
Ashley Bushell is an educator with over 16 years of experience, bringing diverse expertise across elementary education and instructional coaching roles. She has taught grades 1 through 5, served as a technology coach, and worked as a school instructional coach, and is now entering her second year as a K-12 instructional coach for Fairfield County School District. Ashley also spent six years teaching abroad in Kuwait, broadening her perspective on international education and diverse learning communities. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina, and a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University. She remains passionate about supporting teachers and students through innovative, research-based practices.

Amber White graduated from Catawba College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle School Education, with a concentration in Mathematics. Additionally, she received a Master of Arts in Education from East Carolina University. Amber is currently enrolled at Gardner-Webb University, pursuing her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. She has five years of experience in the classroom. Throughout her educational career, Amber has taught sixth-grade through Math 1 courses in two schools in a North Carolina public school district. At both schools, she has been a member of the Teacher-Led Design Team (TLDT). In addition to the TLDT, Amber has served as co-chair of the School Culture Committee at her first school as well as co-champion of Advisory at her current school. At the district level, Amber serves as a member of the Reading Culture Champion Team.

Jamie Richardson is a native of Waynesboro, Ga. With over 20 years of experience in education, Jamie has taught and served in coaching roles in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Principal. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Paine College and a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Reading and Mathematics from Walden University. Additionally, she received an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. Seeking certification in the area of leadership, Jamie completed the Administrator Add-On Licensure Certificate program at Gardner-Webb University. Currently, Jamie is enrolled at Gardner-Webb University as she pursues an Educational Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.

Description
This Professional Learning Module (PLM) on Strengthening Student Talk and Academic Discourse is designed to support K-12 grade educators in integrating student talk and academic discourse into their classrooms to improve student engagement. Grounded in research, this PLM provides participants with practical strategies and resources to use in their classroom through the integration of student communication. Regardless of your role in the school, this module will help you foster academic conversations in your classroom that can lead to your students gaining confidence and a deeper understanding of the content. By the end of this module, you will have taught a lesson using the knowledge gained from completing the PLM.
