WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE SICK

1. When you are sick with flu symptoms or have a minor injury:

Go to a pharmacy. You can ask the pharmacist to recommend a brand after describing your symptoms or find it on your own. 

It is not necessary to contact Expanish outside of normal office hours for a mild sickness.

2. Am I sick enough to see a doctor? Keeping in mind that these are general guidelines, and everyone has their own criteria for when they should see a doctor, you should consider seeing a doctor in the following circumstances:

• If you have been sick for multiple days without getting better

• If you need a prescription (many medicines, such as birth control do not require one - ask your pharmacist).

• If over-the-counter medication is not giving your relief, or you are not sure what type of sickness you have

It is not necessary to call Expanish Emergency phone outside of normal office hours when you need to see a doctor for a non-emergency.

3. I need to see a doctor? What should I do?

In case that you need to see a doctor but you haven’t done an appointment, we recommend you to go to Clinica Sagrada Familia. It's a walk-in clinic with translator services 24/7.  If not, you can go to any of the other recommended hospital that has also good service but we can’t assure that they will have English-speaking staff. 

Most likely you will have to pay up-front to see a doctor, but you will often be reimbursed later by your insurance.

Be aware that a lot of insurance only cover issues that happened abroad not pre-existing causes.

4. I have a medical emergency.

In the case of medical emergency, do not hesitate to take a taxi to a hospital or call 112 for an ambulance if necessary (ambulances can only take you to the nearest public hospital). Do not worry about insurance in this case, as the most important thing is to get treatment as soon as possible.
