Dr. Mary Jane Woods

Mary Jane Woods is a recently retired Licensed Psychologist in the state of Wyoming. Before retiring, Mary Jane worked as the Clinical Director of St. Joseph’s Children’s Home for nearly 23 years supervising licensed and provisionally licensed therapists in their work with severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. St. Joseph’s provides psychiatric residential treatment and outpatient services for children who have experienced pronounced trauma, autism spectrum diagnoses, severe depression or psychosis, or often a combination of these and other psychiatric disorders. Prior to joining the staff at St. Joseph’s, Mary Jane worked for 20 years in a variety of roles at Children’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a comparable client population in inpatient, outpatient, group home and day treatment settings.

Mary Jane believes that evidence-based trauma informed intervention tailored carefully to the needs of emotionally vulnerable children and adolescents can provide them with the ability to live healthy, safe and valuable lives, and allow them to contribute meaningfully to society and their community. Many of these vulnerable children and adolescents also experience significant economic, cultural and emotional disadvantage, further increasing their challenges.

Mary Jane believes that her primary career contributions have been made in efforts to assure the delivery of quality care, advocacy, and the hope of a better future for this population of children. Throughout her career, Mary Jane has been equally committed to supporting the training of students at all levels of advanced training in mental health services, whether practicum, internship or licensing supervision.

Mary Jane’s most compelling experiences and wins have involved the development of group home and day treatment programs for this population of children and adolescents in Oklahoma and the development of high-quality clinical treatment at St. Joseph’s. Mary Jane is especially excited about the expansion of trauma informed care throughout the entire residential treatment program at St. Joseph’s in recent years.

Mary Jane has training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), hypnosis, and varied areas relevant to trauma informed care. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, and is a member and Past President of the Wyoming Psychological Association. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Wyoming and served two terms on the Wyoming Board of Psychology, a governor appointed position. During her 10-year tenure on this Board, she held the position of President for two years.
