Everybody Matters interns teaches coping skills to emotionally vulnerable youth. The interns receive extensive training on providing emotional support to students and helping students to both learn and utilize coping skills in real time. We recognize that we not change the student’s circumstances, but we can help them “survive” the circumstances by utilizing appropriate coping skills.
Coping skills are strategies that can be used to manage stress, and negative emotions related to a particular situation. These can include learning to utilize mindfulness and pause and take a breath when you recognize you are reacting angrily; learning to challenge your unhelpful thoughts about situations or learning to seek help from adults when you need it.
The services Everybody Matters provides are trauma sensitive. In other words, when we provide services we understand the impact of trauma, recognize the signs, and seek to avoid re-traumatization.
Everybody Matters promotes Healthy Friendships by working with students on understanding healthy relationships. In addition, we provide trainings for parents and teachers to prepare them to speak with the child about healthy relationships and to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships.
Everybody Matters is launching a Professional Development project to enhance the services we provide. These trainings cover topics relevant to the children we serve, and are geared toward educators, parents, and others who work with children (caregivers, after school program staff, etcetera). These professional development services are designed and implemented by experts in the field, and are provided for a fee to districts. If you or your district are interested in these professional development services, please email prodev@everybodymattersaz.org
Everybody Matters has partnered with EyeCare 4 Kids and Dr. Ric Rios to provide vision screenings and glasses free of charge to children.
