Opening speeches our first day at KJ from student representative, Devenere, and sensei.
Jump rope activity where each class of first-year students must all jump simultaneously to see which team gets the most completed jumps in a given amount of time. A lesson in patience, togetherness, team-building, perseverance, and fun.
After the activity, a couple of the Trippers were called on to comment about the activity, who responded in Japanese, of course! All teams received a gift at the closing ceremony.
An early "get to know you" activity where catching the tossed ball meant you answered a prompt, such as "your favorite food, movie, word," etc. Lots of smiles all around!
Teams presented in Japanese on cultural topic to classes of KJ first-graders. Below is "Team Food," where they introduced several common foods and desserts found in America via a game of bingo with descriptions and pictures of the foods.
Below is "Team Geography" who presented an overview of the regions of the US and common features associated with those regions. They completed their presentation with a game of jeopardy where teams of KJers answered challenging questions for points and a prize for the winning group.
Below is "Team Cartoons and Superheroes," who presented through visuals and videos, cartoons and superheroes common to the US. KJers loved hearing about some of the classics like "Tom and Jerry" as well as more recent creations, like Adventure Time.
Below is "Team Dance," who introduced, demonstrated, and involved KJers to moves enjoyed by current teens in the US. The presentation culminated with a large group circle rendition of Juju.
