Itinerary: Ryokan/Japanese Inn experience ↝ Onsen/Natural Hot Springs Bathing Challenge ↝ Kaiseki Dinner
We began the day with a full Japanese breakfast of multiple courses: a variety of healthy vegetables, grilled salmon, miso soup, and much more (there were a few other dishes that were served during the meal.)
Onsen Challenge: Soak in each of the nine different natural hot spring baths and be given protection from a variety of health issues.
Climbing the long flight of stairs to the temple at the top was challenging, wearing a long yukata and in the wooden geta. Climbing back down was an even more precarious balancing act.
Clomping through town in kimono and geta (traditional wooden sandals). A view from the steps up to the temple where you place your final stamp on the onsen meguri towel.
We soaked in all nine hot spring baths, plus the one at our ryokan/inn and the outdoor rotemburo as well! 11 baths in 24 hours. The rest of the group soaked, too, but in not quite as many.
Onsen tamago, eggs soft boiled in onsen waters available along the streets of Shibu Onsen.
