Bridgeport General Store

Bridgeport Market, The Travertine Saloon became the Gurney building which then combined with “Doc” Sinclair’s drug store and office to become the Market just before 1900 when it was purchased by Frank L. Wedertz.

Sinclair was legendary for successfully treating 39 out of 40 scarlet fever patients. He was accidentally shot in the leg by a drunk ranch hand resulting in amputation in 1889.

The Market ran successfully by Wedertz, his young son Gilbert interpreting for the local Indian clientele until Frank became the Mono County Tax Collector in 1934 and sold to Cain and Evans.
