Due to positive feedback from last year's virtual DCS, we are again offering the opportunity for students and their teachers to engage in online DigCit content and a contest! Follow the links below or on the drop down menu in the navigation above!
HS Students: This year Technology Integrationist Heather Callihan from Northwest HS in Grand Island created a thoughtful video about using technology for creation, not just consumption. In addition, Lincoln Public Schools created a "media balance" video. ESU staff have created the accompanying activities for those videos meant for students in grades 9-12. (Teachers may choose to use these videos for middle school students as well.)
MS Students: Common Sense Education has a new curriculum called Digital Connections. We pulled several of the videos and talking points to put here for middle schoolers. You can also use the HS videos if you feel they are appropriate for your students.
Elementary Students: The Digiduck® collection has been created to help parents and teachers educate children aged 3 – 7 about online safety. The collection includes a ebooks, PDFs, a poster and an interactive app. ESU staff has added talking points, a review game and quiz to take. We encourage teachers to use these activities with their students to generate conversations around online safety.
Returning this year: Digital Citizenship Message Contest! There will be age categories for several grade levels.
All school districts in Nebraska are eligible to participate. There is no charge for the event this year! And there is no limit to the number of students or teachers participating. All activities will be emailed out and teachers can facilitate them at their own convenience.
