college and career pathways

Region 9 Education Service Center Adult Education and Literacy department offers many supports for adults seeking to further their careers and/or education. Those enrolled will access information and guidance to help adult students:

progress through life transitions
prepare for and enroll in college, trade, or vocational school
establish themselves in a new career
meet current commitments and goals

The Region 9 Adult Education & Literacy Career Pathway program is an academic support program for students training in one of our designated career pathway fields for in-demand careers. It organizes education, training, and other services to meet the particular needs of an individual in a manner that accelerates their education and career advancement. The program is a selective program, but once complete, students can be immediately employable. We are in the process of developing classes (i.e. STARS) for our Helping You Build (HUB) Career Academy which will include academic prep for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).

In this entry-level course, students gain the knowledge in workplace readiness, financial literacy, career readiness, and digital literacy along with understanding the onboarding process of enrolling into our IET classes or college classes at Vernon College.

INTEGRATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING (IET)

Integrated Education and Training (IET) is defined in WIOA Section 203(11) as a service approach that provides adult education and literacy activities concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities and workforce training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster for the purpose of educational and career advancement. According to the definition, each IET course will have three components which the student will complete:

Specific adult education content (Basic Academic Skills and Digital Literacy)
Workforce preparation activities (Workplace Activities)
Workforce training competencies (Occupational Skill Training)

In this entry-level course, students gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies essential to providing basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. The 116-hour course topics include resident rights and safety, reporting, observation, effective communication, effective interaction with the health care team, assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and personal care.
