State Goal for Services for Gifted Talented Students
Students who participate in services designed for gifted talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience or environment. High school graduates who have participated in services for gifted talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services.
Needs Assessment
A review of national and state studies of gifted children indicates that in a "normal" population of students there will be five percent of the students who can be identified as gifted- talented. It has been determined that Era Independent School District has such a population and therefore requires a differentiated and comprehensive program that will meet the needs of those gifted-talented students. It has been established that teachers who provide instruction and services as part of the program for gifted students will receive a minimum of 30 clock hours of staff development.
