March

Spring is nearly here! Please enjoy reading about some of the learning 6B have been involved in this month. As usual there have been lots of exciting things happening, including British Science Week and World Book Day.

Literacy

We are continuing to read our class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class. The children are really excited to find out what happens at the end- we will hopefully be finished before the holidays! They have been writing comic strips about Ahmet's dangerous journey which took him from Syria all the way to England. Will his parents be found? We'll let you know next time!

Numeracy and Maths

The class used their knowledge of co- ordinates to find hidden letters using a map of the playground. Once they had found all of the letters they had to work out the word. All groups worked well together and managed to find all of their clues and improving their map reading skills in the process.

We then designed board games based on our knowledge of co-ordinates.

We planned our games first, then had fun playing our own  and each others.

We are learning about Natural Disasters and in particular earthquakes.

The children learnt about the layers of the earth and why earthquakes occur in some places and not others.

They are using modelling clay to build the layers of the earth.

Artin and Asavira are modelling the oceans.

Emily is building the inner core.

Fahd is building the land.

Varad is concentrating hard on building the inner core.

Harriet and Aleeza are  building the inner core and the tectonic plates.

STEM

The children dissected a sheep's heart as part of the Body Works Science Programme.

We went to the Exploration Suite to find something amazing waiting for us,it was a sheep's heart! We were learning about the heart so Mr Keir got a sheep's heart to let us explore what's inside. We saw how the heart worked and all the heart strings. We also got to hold the heart but some people were scared so they only touched it. Some people thought it was gross but most of them thought it was so cool we also got to put our finger through the hole that pumps blood. After that Mr Keir taught us about the heart and what it does.    by Manha Fatima 6B

The finished results!

PE and RME with Mrs Cairns

In RME this month, we have been looking at key figures and teachings from Christianity and learning how these influence Christian morality. We looked at the Old Testament teachings of Moses and the ten commandments. We then thought about our values and created our own versions of these. We also looked at the story of the Prodigal Son and what this teaches Christians about forgiveness.

In PE, we have been learning how to play Netball. We've practised different types of throws used in the sport and learnt about different positions and what their roles are. We've also improved our defending and attacking skills as well as our ability to shoot with accuracy.
