February

It has been yet another busy month! We have been especially excited to learn about how our bodies work culminating in a visit to the Glasgow Science Centre. Enjoy reading all about our learning this month.

Literacy

We  are reading the book, There's a Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf. The theme of the book is friendship, family and the refugee crisis. We have had insightful discussions and produced some excellent writing. The children thought carefully about what they would take if they only had 5 minutes to leave their home- what is essential and maybe something they feel is precious to them.

STEM

Observing the effect of vitamin C on apples.

We wanted to find out if Vitamin C helped us to keep healthy. We compared the effect that 4 different amounts of vitamin C had on apples after 24 hours and 48 hours. We discovered that the apple that was  in the water with the most Vitamin C in the water was the least brown. We concluded that Vitamin C helped our bodies to stay healthy.

Measuring our resting heartbeat.

We have been learning about the circulatory system. One of the investigations we carried out was to see how our breathing changes when resting then after exercise.

The plan of  a journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh and back.

Numeracy and Maths

We have been learning about different aspects of time for the last couple of weeks. We worked out problems involving different units of time,  duration of time and planned a journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh using bus and train timetables.

Planning our day out.

Art Gallery

We designed our own artwork based on the work of the Scottish artist, Gillian Kyle. Can you spot all of the different Scottish products?

Learn with us Afternoon

We had a fun afternoon exploring our senses through  different activities. These included optical illusions, smelling substances such as ginger and our favourite- taste!

Our Visit  to the  Glasgow Science Centre

Our Day at the Glasgow Science Centre

by Ayden and Nathaniel.

The start of the trip was amazing, we had a great, clean and a joyful trip to the Glasgow Science Centre.

As we went in the Science Centre, we saw the Glasgow Tower which was quite tall and quite slim to support such a tall tower.

Next, we dropped off our bags and coats. We were at the Cafeteria, it was the most bright place we have ever seen, it even has a gigantic monitor to play movie ads! Then, we went up some escalators up to the first floor.

When we were at the end of the escalator, we were at floor one. It was so cool! There was lots of lights and sound and overall this floor was just spectacular! One of the experiments was a bowling ball and a tennis ball. The way this worked was using the weight of the bowling to create air pressure that blows up the bowling ball and when it is dropped, the tennis ball shoots up in the air.

As the next 30 mins past, we went up yo the 3rd floor, wow! What an amazing sight! The first thing that caught my eye was the "Jumping Height Machine " . Me and Nathaniel took turns to play it, he got to the height of 26cm and I jumped to the height of 16cm. We are both happy with our score!

Next, we went to the second floor, this was very fun! The second floor didn't have as much to do as the other floor, so it was a bit boring, then we saw a flight academy. I, Nathaniel was very happy about this as I want to be a pilot when I grow up, but anyway, the rest of the floor was so cool! There was air pressure bottles and so much more.

After lunch we went to the shop to buy some books , toys and a lot more.

A short while later, we went to the theatre to watch the show. There was a very nice lady called Emma, she showed us lots of experiments  and the very last one she showed us was very cool and a little hot too, even for me!

Yesterday was a very fun day, we learnt lots of scientific knowledge too.

That day was just unforgettable!
