Calculating Area
Today we were learning how to calculate the area of shapes by counting squares and half squares. We also learned how to use the term square centimetres.
Square Centimetres = cm2
As a challenge we drew our initials as shapes and calculated the area, some letters were very tricky!
We enjoy practising our numeracy skills with some spicy chilli challenges!
We got to choose our own level of challenge and can even try more than one.
We love showing off our knowledge and getting to "Explain our brain!" to the class when solving the calculations!
Marvellous Master Classes 😃
Indoor Exercising!
It was a little too icy for Tag Rugby this week so we warmed ourselves up with some indoor PE. We were thoroughly out of breath with Danny go! We also did some stretching and balancing in yoga.
Terrific Tennis
In tennis, we have been learning to hold the racket, pass to a partner, bounce the ball on the racket and hit the ball back to a partner. We have played around the world and doubles rallies!
Book Week Scotland
We paid a visit to the new and exciting Innovation Station Library where we were able to choose some new books to read. Our favourites were Dork Diaries, Bunny Vs Monkey and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Authors Live - Axel Scheffler
We joined an Authors Live session with illustrator Axel Scheffler. We learned how to draw his characters from the Julia Donaldson books, The Gruffalo and Jonty Gentoo!
Drop Everything And Read!
We created PowerPoint presentations with words and images, and added terrific transitions and amazing animations to keep our audience engaged.
We were really impressed with each other's work!😀
We have been learning about timelines in Social Studies. This week we completed our own personal timelines of our lives so far! We learned to list events chronologically and follow the line from left to right. Watch this space for our Titanic Timelines - Coming Soon!
We have been learning to display our data in a variety of ways. Today we learned how to put our data into a Spreadsheet using Googles Sheets, we then created bar graphs, pie charts and even doughnut charts!
We had fun exploring the different types of charts and and choosing the appropriate one to display our information.
If you would like to see our finished charts they are in our google account. Click Waffle - Sheets.
Perfecting PowerPoints
Today we have been learning about Microsoft PowerPoint and using this computer programme to create personal presentations with a friend.
We learned how to add slides, text and images and use the designer function to make it look exciting for our audience.
We are looking forward to finishing and presenting our slides.
Reciprocal Teaching
Today we were learning to use the magnetic board to learn our spelling words. We took turns being the teacher to support and check our partner's work.
First we say our word out loud
Then we make our word and break it into its phonemes
Next we blend it and read it
Finally we write it from memory
