At Hillview we recognise that transitions can be a challenge and we work hard to support our pupils at these points in their education. While extra provision is given to children moving into P1, or moving on to high school, all children receive support.
In the summer term, once the class structure and staffing has been agreed, classes will have opportunities to meet their new teacher and visit their new classroom. They will know which door and which cloakroom to use on their return in August and which playground they will play in. When there is a need to restructure classes, pupils will have additional times where they can get to know their new classmates.
In addition, certain pupils may require an extended support and the nature of this will be determined by the needs of each child. The supports put in place may include:
extra meetings with the teacher
an extra visit during the in-service days in August
a social story and photographs sent home over the summer
