As of March 9, the EdTech Tools Privacy Review process has been temporarily suspended due to pending changes to the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) process and requirements, necessitated by the recent introduction of Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). An update will be provided when the process resumes, along with information regarding any required changes to the Division’s process.
In the meantime, teachers and school administrators wishing to use unapproved EdTech tools are reminded of the requirement to obtain parental consent. Additional information regarding EdTech Tools and parental consent is available on Connect.
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIP) was repealed on June 11, 2025 and replaced with two new acts: the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). This page has been updated to reflect the new POPA legislation.
Please reach out to accessandprivacy@epsb.ca with any questions about privacy considerations around EdTech tools.
