Gemini is a generative artificial Intelligence tool powered collaborative assistant that can help with writing, visualizing, organizing, and more. Gemini works similarly to other generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and can assist you with:
Writing: Gemini can generate text, translate languages, and assist with brainstorming, enhancing your written work.
Organizing: Gemini summarizes information and helps you organize ideas, streamlining your workflow.
Visualizing: Gemini can generate images from text descriptions, adding a visual element to your projects.
Connecting: Gemini can assist with email drafts and translations, improving communication at work or in the classroom.
Google Gemini is the recommended AI tool for staff use as it is part of our Division’s Google Workspace for Education (GWFE) services. This means:
As with our other Google Workspace tools, our data is our data. Google doesn’t own it, the Division does.
Staff get the same data protection and security standards as with all of our Google Workspace for Education services (Drive, Gmail, Chat, etc.).
Any interactions with Gemini are stored with your work content and are not shared outside of the Division. This means what you enter is not used to train Google’s AI model.
Gemini is now accessible through the Google Apps menu ('waffle' menu) inside Division Google Workspace applications.
Gemini for Teens is a custom designed version of Gemini for users aged 13-17. Teen users get a unique Gemini app experience, created by Google after consulting with child development and learning science experts. This included conducting industry standard testing processes to find vulnerabilities in generative AI, and testing with youth advisory panels to ensure this technology was being brought to students responsibly. Gemini for Teens will become available for schools to request access to, starting in May.
Administrators who would like to learn more about Gemini For Teens and how it might benefit their students are encouraged to reach out to the Technology Integration and Planning Support Consultant (Click Here to find yours) Additionally a number of Sessions in PDR and Pre-DLM are offered to support division leaders with learning more. Finally reviewing the resources generated for staff and students shared below may be a great first step in preparing to use Gemini For Teens with your students.
