The TIPS Teacher Consultant team has been presenting to catchment groups and working with staff teams to determine purposeful integration of AI tools into the classroom setting. We can provide professional development sessions with facilitated conversation, starting with any of the topics listed below.
These resources are an overview and are designed to get you started in your professional learning journey about AI. Please note that features in AI tools continue to shift rapidly, so some of the videos available in our After School Tech Tips might be out of date. The TIPS team uses a various guiding documents and frameworks to support their development of materials around AI in Education. Below are a few of the relevant documents that shape our work:
The documents below introduce the topics of AI Literacy and AI Fluency. These two terms help define the level of efficacy when using AI in a professional environment.
AI Literacy, as presented by the TIPS team, is the understanding of the systems behind AI tools, including the ethical and professional considerations required to use them in Education. AI Fluency broadly refers to combining this literacy with the proficient use and application of AI tools for teaching and learning.
These terms should be viewed as a continuum; the TIPS team recommends building a foundation of AI Literacy before moving toward AI Fluency through continued learning, consideration of ethical implications, and professional use of these tools.
Google Gemini is the Division standard Generative AI tool. The Gemini App can generate text and images, code programs, and analyze large documents in seconds. Gemini also integrates with all other Google Workspace apps, allowing you to reference Docs, Slides, and emails as part of your prompt.
Any interactions with Gemini are stored with your work content and are not shared outside of the Division. This means what you enter is not used to train Google’s AI model.
Notebook LM is your personalized AI research assistant, powered by Google's advanced language model. It allows you to 'ground' the AI in your own documents, creating a customized knowledge base. It's designed to streamline your workflow and boost productivity by summarizing information, answering questions, and even generating creative ideas based on your specific documents.
Gemini for Teens is a custom designed version of Gemini for users aged 13-17. Teen users get a unique Gemini app experience, created by Google after consulting with child development and learning science experts.
Administrators who would like to learn more about Gemini For Teens and how it might benefit their students are encouraged to reach out to the Technology Integration and Planning Support Consultant (Click Here to find yours). A number of professional learning sessions are offered on PDR to support division leaders with learning more.
