Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Design: RC will use one magnet instead of two. CAD design for drive mechanism updated after skype interview. Considering the addition of mumetal to reduce magnetic exposure. Redesigned remote control case for one magnet.
Fabrication: Drive mechanism (Prototype #4) is 3D printed in high resolution (30-40 micron) and to scale. Remote control with one magnets assembled.
Tests: Torque measurements taken in machine shop for the magnetic torque of new RC prototype. Used 2mm material to simulate skin (barrier).
Accomplishments from Previous Week
New drive mechanism (prototype #4) redesigned. Theoretical calculations of torque and force on magnet and lead screw computed. Experimental torque measurements taken. FEA of different two and one magnet configurations computed. Purchased M1 screws and screwdriver for future demonstration.
Goals for Next Week
Macy: Compute theoretical torque and force calculations. Edit report.
Dingyi: Purchase titanium 3D printed plates. Determine experimental torque values for other magnet configurations.
Ashley: 3D print remote designs after sponsor approval. Edit website and edit written report.
Alec:. Redesign and refine prototype #5. Find leadscrew to purchase for prototype.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Suggestion: Rewrite and edit report
Action: Report has been reviewed. Waiting for student comments as well.
Skype interview with professional engineer:
Suggestion: use multiple methods to manufacture different parts
Action: Purchase lead screw and 3D print plates in Ti64
Suggestion:Minimize the friction. Consider the asymmetric loading on the current design
Suggestion: Outer tube casing is too small/thin
Action: Redesigning prototype #5 to optimize the efficiency
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comment: Received approval to purchase TI64 3D printed prototype for approximately $1500.

Risks and Areas of Concern
How to lock and unlock the device to change direction after implantation
If the drive mechanism will work if 3D printed to scale
Would mumetal reduce the magnetic exposure? How to integrate it?
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Where to purchase an off-the-shelf titanium lead screw at the small scale required?
Schedule
Upcoming milestone: Submit purchasing order for plates only. Buy titanium leadscrew. Add LCD Screen.
