Engineering Challenge
The challenge is to make the strongest building with: wooden blocks, popsicle sticks, and cups in five minutes. Students are grouped in pairs, each partner takes a turn in adding one block. When the timer goes off, the students make a hypothesis if the structure is going to topple over or if the Beebot is going to push it to the side. At the end of the activity the class talks about which structure fell down and which structure stayed intact and why?
Scientific Inquiry: Form a hypothesis and test it.
Materials: Popsicle sticks, plastic cups, wooden blocks
Social learning: Taking turns, learning how to work together
Language learning: Explain what the Beebot succeeded in doing in French.
Notre intention est de faire tomber la structure.
Notre intention est de faire bouger la structure sans qu'elle ne tombe
TechFair: Two Students from the class ask participants ( people at the tech fair.. other students) to make a structure with blocks of wood, popsicle sticks and cups. They have to put a structure together with a partner, once completed, they ask the participant to make a hypothesis if the structure is going to fall or if the beebot will push it to the side.
