The students in grade 6 worked on personal narratives this year. They were inspired by a picture, quote or word, and came up with a personal story that they shares with the class in the form of storytelling.
Once all students had their story in mind, they presented them to their classmates and received feedback from each other. Stories were then produced in the written form, and the students learned about the writing process (drafting, editing and publishing) throughout the project.
Students were introduced to STORY JUMPER, an online program used to publish their stories as a book.
Students planned out how each page would look (text, background, images, etc.), and began to write their text. Then, they created backgrounds and characters to help tell their story. Once the stories were edited and the books were finalized, students recorded their voices narrating their story as well.
Students now have a published audio/visual book that can be read and listened to online using their unique QR codes. As an added bonus, students may even purchase the hard copy of their book!
