Building community together, through empathy and empowerment.
Our administration will be committed to promoting sustainability across campus by working with students and leaders in our community to help advance the university's sustainability goals. We believe that creating a more sustainable community is an essential part of moving our campus forward.
Overview & Background
W&M has one of the largest composting programs in the country for an institution of our size, but there is always room to improve. Currently, public composting locations are only located on our main undergraduate campus. We will work to expand composting so that there is public compost access at all of our graduate schools and at more remote campus locations like the Ludewell Apartment Complex and Richmond Hall.
Mission & Action Items
We will work with Dining Sustainability to combat any challenges associated with expanding public composting to more remote locations of our campus and will provide funding in order to purchase additional bins.

Overview & Background
Our community is filled with students who are passionate about sustainability and creating a more environmentally conscious campus. That being said, there is currently little to no communication between campus sustainability groups. If these groups had a forum in which they could come together and share ideas there would be many more opportunities for collaboration which would hopefully lead to even greater impact.
Mission & Action Items
We will work with the Office of Sustainability and the variety of sustainably minded organizations on campus to create a sustainability forum that would allow students to share the sustainable projects that they are working on with others. This forum would allow for more connection in the sustainability community and would enable groups to take on bigger sustainability challenges.

Overview & Background
We feel lucky to call such a beautiful campus our home and want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to take advantage of the greenspaces around them. Students should be able to spend time in our greenspaces in a variety of ways, whether that be for recreational activities or for studying. Increasing the number of outdoor study spaces we have on campus would allow students to get outside and will promote a happier and healthier student body.
Mission & Action Items
We will work with groups like the Parks and Ecotherapy Research Lab to assess how greenspaces on campus can be improved. By listening to student feedback we can expand greenspaces in a way that is accessible for all students.

Overview & Background
Using a reusable water bottle is one of the easiest sustainable changes that someone can make. In order to encourage the use of the reusable water bottles, students need to have easy access to water bottle filling stations, especially in their dorms. First-year residence halls do not currently have adequate access to water filling stations.
Mission & Action Items
We will work with Residence Life and the Office of Sustainability to evaluate what student spaces do not have adequate access to water bottle filling stations. Help fund initiatives to give portable water filters to halls without a water bottle filling station and/or water fountain.
