Building community together, through empathy and empowerment.
The main purpose of Student Assembly is to lift all student voices and lead as the voice of reason, logic, and help--especially in times of uncertainty. As a representative body, SA must be intentional about implementing initiatives and ensuring outreach and feedback with students who are impacted by them. Our administration will value transparency and collaboration in everything we do.
Overview & Implementation
William & Mary fortunate to have one of the most active study bodies for activism and advocacy. We envision Student Assembly serving as a bridge between various initiatives and organizations to facilitate collaboration. Our administration will utilize the formation of coalitions to connection groups with similar goals. This work has been started by the current SA administration with the creation of the Health Council, who's purpose is to help with communication between organizations and initiatives. We will expand this to other topic areas in hopes of building community, together!
Continue to utilize town halls and ensure follow up discussions and action
Overview & Implementation
Our administration will continue the use of community conversations to discuss relevant topics in a safe and open environment. We believe that it is critical that the experiences and feedback from these town halls should be utilized in furthering the conversation towards meaningful change. We will to use check-in rosters and contacts for follow up conversations and opportunities to become involved thus expanding the reach and impact of every community conversation into producing action.
Implement public biweekly office hours for all Student Assembly Executive Departments
Overview & Implementation
To help solicit student feedback and concerns, we would implement biweekly office hours hosted by members of all nine executive departments: Academic Affairs, College Policy & Student Rights, Diversity Initiatives, Finance, Health & Safety, Public Affairs, Outreach, Student Life, and Sustainability. This covers a wide range of issues on campus and allows the student body to better connect and advocate for their needs.
Implement weekly community-based engagement during SA Senate meetings
Overview & Implementation
We believe that it is crucial to always be constituency-centered when developing initiatives. As elected representatives, we must put aside personal biases and keep an open mind to act in the service of others. A Cho-Martinez administration will invite community members and organizations to weekly Senate meetings to share experiences, feedback, and educate Senate Members on various topics of interest. We would also encourage direct student body involvement in the bill writing process and discussions.
