Student Assembly President & Vice President
Building community together, through empathy and empowerment.
Dear Fellow Students,
We are running for Student Assembly President and Vice President to empower and support you to make the changes you want to see at William & Mary. Our mission is clear: building community. We want a greater shift away from performative actions and empty discussions to community-driven initiatives in order to affect meaningful change.
You are the catalyst for change. The role of the Student Assembly should be to amplify and advocate for the resources our community needs. We believe there is no better way to accomplish this than directly incorporating the voices of the student body.
Our platform reflects unique perspectives and experiences--shaped by students for students. Our platform is not complete. Your voice, thoughts, and experiences are the most important part. We consider this a living platform and will be shaped and updated directly by our community.
We hope you will vote for us on Thursday, March 31st, and support us in our efforts in building community, together.
With Love,
John & Jasmin
Hello! My name is John Cho (조인수) and I'm a junior from Newport News, VA, studying Public Health & Data Science.
As a first-generation low-income student, many of my struggles have been rooted by the lack of a strong support system and difficulty navigating the resources at W&M. I believe that every single student has the right to have access and equity in resources for success. Experiencing the impacts of marginalization has allowed me to develop a sincere empathy and passion for advocacy, which motivated me to join Student Assembly.
I currently serve as the Student Assembly (SA) Chief of Staff and help manage our nine Executive Departments in developing and implementing initiatives on behalf of the student body. I work in all policy areas in SA ranging from Health & Safety to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Previously, I served as the Secretary of Sustainability and led all sustainability-related policy for SA. I helped implement the compost system on-campus, increased student representation on the Committee on Sustainability, and worked on several other initiatives with the Office of Sustainability and Dining Sustainability. In addition, I represent the student body on the Board of Visitors Committee on the Student Experience, President's Aides, Provost's Working Group on Academic Stress, Provost's Climate Working Group, and Dean of Arts & Sciences Advisory Board. Through these experiences, I have come to genuinely appreciate the value and impact of student voices. Every voice, every experience, every story is valid. If elected, I will fight to make sure you are heard.

Hi there! My name is Jasmin Martinez. I'm a Junior from Annandale, VA, studying Biology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Public Health on a pre-med track.
When I first walked on campus, I found myself brimming with joy and hope for the journey ahead. However, these feelings were short-lived as I started to look around me. I was a first-generation, Latine student who had big aspirations but felt that I lacked a support network. I had an overwhelming feeling of imposter syndrome which made me think, did I truly belong here?
As I began to join clubs and organizations, I was met with a warm hug and William & Mary began to feel like home. Being a part of these organizations taught me the value of inclusivity and kindness and the necessity of both in fostering a welcoming atmosphere. They ultimately create a sense of community which is vital for effective and sustainable change. Now, I strive to extend that warm embrace I once received to everyone I meet by being welcoming, compassionate, and listening to those who allow me to hear their story. By doing so, I hope to continue the work of building community.
Although I haven't been directly involved with Student Assembly, I have collaborated on various initiatives across campus to benefit our community, therefore I bring a unique outside perspective. I understand the disconnect often felt between students and Student Assembly. John and I aim to be transparent about our work and recognize the people working alongside us to ensure all voices are heard and acknowledged. We know it can take a village to create the change we want to see– a vote for us is a vote to be part of that effort to build community together.
