Sigmund Abeles studied art at the University of South Carolina and Columbia University. Primarily a figurative artist, he has also been active as a teacher. Abeles’ art --especially his figurative works--seeks to explore human expression and psychology. This self-portrait shows the artist looking with some intensity as he uses what looks like a litho crayon holder to measure up the proportions of his subject—himself.
