Week 6
May 12 - May 16
May 12 - May 16
On May 11th, we had 31 donors donate! We had 34 people scheduled, but only 3 deferred, which is a low number, which is good! 32 units of blood were collected, which is good for the day of the drive being Mother's Day. The American Red Cross's goal was to get at least 24 blood units, so I'm delighted to have gotten 32 units. One of these donations can save up to three lives, so this is very meaningful to me. With the help of our volunteers Kevin Sabourin, Joe Sabourin, Dizzie Shaffer, Amelia Meehan, Luke Feldman, Chloe McCormack, and my supervision, the blood drive ran very smoothly and there were absolutely no problems. My inside mentor, Ashley Rimbey, and outside mentor Bill Deking both showed up to show support and help out. I couldn't have asked for better mentors, especially Mrs.Rimbey, who has been an absolute role model and someone very special to me. This was an amazing experience, and I want to thank Mrs. Hagan and Mr. Parga for allowing me to run the blood drive in the gym. All the donors left with a smile and said that it was a smooth process. I donated as well for the first time, which was so cool since I donated in my drive! Mrs. Rimbey also donated with me, so it was a special moment since we have never donated before :). The pictures above and below were taken by Dizzie Shaffer and me!
Both my inside mentor and outside mentor came to show support! I couldn't have asked for better mentors! :)
I went to the library and finished packing the 600 summer reading bags. It was such a long and tiring process, but now the kids in the library will have summer reading bags for the summer! I made 30 extra just in case there are more than 600 kids who register for the summer reading program. We also packed some more take-and-make bags that were space-themed, so that there were more activities for the kids to do. This was such a long process since I had to bag the bags one at a time while double-folding and stapling. Overall, it was such a joy to work with Mrs. McCoy and help out with the summer reading program!
Mr. Osler Peterson was the last person to donate blood in the blood drive! He was nothing but kind and was asking me for information about the drive so that he could shout me out in his blog. I have been busy sending thank-you emails and cards to everyone who helped out with the blood drive, so I wasn't able to email him the specifics of the turnout of the drive. I was notified of this post and was surprised! It is such an honor to be shouted out for my work, so this is very much appreciated. Instead of 38 units of blood, we got 32 units since we had some deferrals. I'm very honored since I've! been with the American Red Cross since middle school
I wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me with this project! I honestly couldn't have asked for better people to work with. Working with Bill Deking from the fire department and the American Red Cross was truly such a good experience. I learned to get out of my comfort zone and actively reach out to people. I also learned how to master Canva (thank you, Mrs.Rimbey ) and learned a few things about advertising. I also learned how to coordinate and accommodate so that people can get what they need. I loved working with Mrs. McCoy and helping her with the time-consuming tasks! And I saved the best for last... I really couldn't have done this without the support of Mrs. Rimbey. She had kept me motivated throughout the entire project. The requirements for checking in with your inside mentor were once a week... She saw me every day (lucky her :) ). She is truly something special, and I am so happy that I got to work with her one last time. Thank you, Mrs Rimbey, for everything, and thank you to everyone reading my website for following my journey!!!
