Week 4
April 29 - May 2
April 29 - May 2
In the morning, I printed the volunteer flyers and taped them around the school. I walked around for a while since I wanted the flyers to be somewhere where people had to walk through. Since the flyer is red, the paper will naturally catch people's eyes. I also went with Mrs.Rimbey to schedule a meeting with Mrs. Hagan to go over some things for the day of the blood drive.
After I met with Mrs. Rimbey, I helped Mr. Jacobson distribute a variety of plants to the science teachers. After I helped out with that, I went to help out in the children's library with McCoy. I started to help her with packaging another take-and-make project bag for the kids!
Today, I figured out why my emails were not working. Since I have two accounts with the Red Cross from previous drives, the donors that I used to email didn't get transferred over to my new account. I went back into my old account and started emailing that new list of donors!
I emailed 139 people from the old list, and so far, have gained 4 donors within 5 minutes! There are still hundreds of donors that I have to email, but so far it is a good sign!!! I then spent the rest of my day with Mrs. McCoy bagging the summer reading baggies. There needs to be at least 600 of these bags made for the kids. The theme for this year is space!!!!
I emailed 45 more people individually from the American Red Cross system! When emailing donors, it is very time-consuming since hundreds have to be sent individually! This process takes hours and multiple days to at least get through 1/4th of the donors!
I also got to stay in Mrs. Rimbey's Chemistry class to do some work and also make some ice cream!!!! My goggles were pushed up a lot, and I couldn't pull them down because I was shaking that bag so the ice cream would solidify. It was so fun to make some vanilla ice cream!! Thank you, Mrs. Rimbey, for letting me stay, work, and make ice cream!!!
On Thursday and Friday, I checked in with Mrs. Rimbey and went to Mrs. McCoy at the library. I helped the whole time by making another 105 take-and-make bags for the children. It's a very time-consuming process since each bag had to have one paper, a pencil, a sticky hand, and a sticker. On top of that, the bags needed to be folded and stapled a certain way so that the items in the bags didn't spill out. On Friday, Mrs. Rimbey and I met with Mrs. Hagan to go over some safety things about the day of the drive. Everything went well! After the meeting, there was a lockdown, and I got stuck with my favorite teacher ever, Mrs. Rimbey. :)
