Week 3
April 14 - April 18
April 14 - April 18
The stuffed animal clinic went well! I got to work with my best friend of 10 years, Chloe McCormack! Together, we got to play the role of doctors for the kids who brought in their stuffed animals! We had 51 kids and 44 adults, which gives us a total of 95 people! We both were able to break the previous record and got to see a lot of smiling faces! It was a win-win for everyone!
Today I worked from home and drafted a lot of emails that will be sent to donors and faculty! I have also been emailing my inside mentor, Mrs. Rimbey, to check over the minor details through email! I am also drafting a Google form for students to sign up as volunteers for the day of the drive! I had a lot of students at last week's wellness fair who wanted to be a part of the drive and help out! I have also been sending emails to Nancy to get her approval of the email before I send it out to donors.
Today I spent a lot of the morning sending emails! I completed the volunteer interest form and sent it over to Nancy to get her approval! I also went in and worked with Mrs. Rimbey to finalize the email to donors. We also came up with a checklist of what needs to be done and who to send emails to!
I used a past donor email list to send emails to the donors! I emailed 195 people from the donors list! I also went on the American Red Cross site and emailed a lot more people from there! When emailing, there are hundreds of donors, and this can take days to get through the whole list!
Today, I spent my morning in the Medfield High School library. I saw how many people were signed up for the blood drive, and we have 17 people so far! We have 27 more spots to fill! I am also working on other posters to post for the Medfield Blood Drive Instagram. I'm also waiting to hear back from Nancy and Bill! While waiting, I took a little break and got to play with the Medfield High School service dog Honey! We had a little game of tag, and of course, she won. :)
I went to the fire station after my AP class to meet with Bill. I wanted to talk with him about security for the day of the drive and see if he needed anything else from me to make sure everything was smooth for the blood drive. I also wanted to ask Bill some questions about whether people at the drive are fooling around. He gave me some advice on how to deal with that, and that is very important since I want everyone at the drive to feel safe and comfortable. I also let him know that I made a volunteer interest form and that we have 17 donors so far!
After I met with Bill, I walked to the Medfield Public Library to help Mrs. McCoy! She gave me the tasks of retrieving books from the shelves and then making more space to take-and-make bags for the summer reading program. There were around 600 kids in the last summer reading program, so she needed a lot more of these bags to be done!
Today I worked from home and tracked the progress! After only having 2 days since I sent the emails, we now have 19 donors! I am confident that more donors will sign up throughout the April break! I also saw that we only have one more power red spot available! When donors sign up to do Power Red, they take twice the amount of blood that they would normally donate! Power Red donations separate the red blood cells and only return the platelets and blood plasma to the donor. In my book, this is a really big win since that's twice the amount of red blood cells! I am also going to write an announcement for after the break to recruit volunteers for the blood drive!
