EGAD— If it's important to you it's significant to us
The letter to the Hebrews - the author was unknown. We just don't know who the author was. This book is the anchor of teaching of the apostles.
Comparisons or contrasts: Jesus vs. angels (Torah), Jesus vs. Moses (the promised land), and Jesus vs. Priests (Melchizedek), Jesus vs. Sacrifice (Covenant).
Jesus is the radiance of God's glory and the exact imprint of God's nature.
Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God's mercy and love!
It's a book full of comparisons/ contrasts.
The author expected the readers to know thoroughly the old testament stories
4 contrasts for 2 main purpose: elevate Jesus as superior and challenge readers
Warn readers to not abandon Jesus - there is no God apart from Jesus
Jesus vs. Angel & Torah, Moses & the promised land, Priests & Melchizedek....
How do you practice the future rest in the wildness?
Jesus announced the ultimate jubilee - Jesus timed his death on the end of the week
First day of the new creation - resurrection: Jesus will give us rest!
We are still in the wildness and journeying toward that ultimate rest!

Carolyn:
Hebrews 13 - talks about loving each other marriage and sex morality: almost the whole
The whole chapter is the Conclusion
Cheena:
My favorite part of chapter 11 - entire chapter about faith and what faith can do
For example, Abraham was told that he would have children that would be numbered
Hebrews 11:1 - 3
People believe in other form of science. With science, everything keeps changing.
Joy:
Mary's favorite verse: without faith, it's impossible to please God.
It's very hard to do and it's complicated. It tells you how to think about your actions and motivations.
God knows your motivations - can be multiple. Sometimes the motivation can be selfish and you think nobody knows. But God knows.
Faith needs to be the thing you rely on.

Miranda:
I also like Hebrews 11 and 12. God's discipline is very important because He is our father. On earth, like our biological father, He gives us a lot of rules and disciplines. We endure something. He is planning something better for us. We should have strong faith in God. Do as He guides us. We will become the children of God.
Hebrews 12:10-
10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
kuang
Hebrews 2: 14-18
Prayer request: kuang's disorgaznied schedule, Joy: eye's exam went well and figured out how health insurance works, my insurance is OPT-based. Please pray that I will spread out my check-up over 2 to 3 months, after that they decided not to pay. Hopefully I only need to check every 3 months. I am thankful for the training in the end of November, have been discussing this training with them. Just pray for all the details about the training. It's after Thanksgiving, the week after Thanksgiving. I have a chronic thing - it's neovascularization - 不正常的血管增生, it's a response to the people's whole body. It's a type of inflmmation, stress, diet, exercise.
Miranda: eye problems
Julie: Migraine still in and out, yesterday and the day before yesterday was terrible. Now it is ok.
Cheena: thankful for not haveing any bad migraine recently. Grateful for that. Travel next Monday - hope to come to Tucson, but not sure yet.
