MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Colleagues,
I would again like to thank the entire Elms College campus community for all you have contributed to the success of our students and to the end of another successful academic year. On Saturday May 20th, you were an integral part of each students’ journey as they walked across the stage. To paraphrase this year’s Commencement speaker, La June Montgomery Tabron, your teaching and support contributed to create “bright, brilliant, and eager leaders who will guide us toward a more just and equitable world.” We strive to create individuals able to embrace change without compromising principle and effect positive changes in the community and world – it should be satisfying for all of us to know that the College continues to mold such individuals as we celebrated the class of 2023, issuing diplomas and certificates to 443 students.
And so that cycle will continue as we will welcome students for this summer’s first Blazer Day on June 28! For those new to the College, Blazer Day is an all-day event where newly accepted students will meet with various groups on campus including Orientation Leaders, Center for Student Success, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Campus Ministry, Student Engagement, among many others. This will be their home for the next four years, so for those who will be on campus, let us do what Elms does best, and welcome them with open arms!
As mentioned in the last newsletter, the summer months will remain busy with the search for the new VP of Enrollment Management and Marketing, closing out fiscal year 2023 and finalizing the fiscal year 2024 budget, completing various summer capital projects, and preparing for the Cabinet and Board of Trustees retreats.
Before these summer days become shorter, I encourage each of you to find some time to rest, reflect, recharge, and take well-deserved time away from the office. You have earned it and I am grateful for all you do for the College, our students, and each other!
With gratitude,
Harry E. Dumay, Ph.D., MBA
President

Press Conference with U.S. Congressman Richard Neal
On May 2, U.S. Congressman Richard Neal came to Elms to formally announce the $1 million earmark he secured for the college in December 2022. The funding will be used to expand the Cynthia A. Lyons Center for Equity in Urban Education (CEUE), assist in the creation of the Master’s in Social Work degree program, and provide scholarships in both programs. The event was well attended by students, faculty, and staff...what a great way to end the school year!
The speakers at Congressman Neal's press conference on May 2 were (left to right): Walter Breau, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs; Tyra Good, Ed.D., Executive Director of the CEUE; James Brown-Martin ’23 MAT, graduate of the CEUE program with a master's of arts in teaching degree; Harry Dumay, Ph.D., MBA, President of Elms College; U.S. Congressman Richard Neal; Kimberly Quinonez ’23, graduate of the Social Work program; and Maureen Holland, MSW, Director of the Social Work program.
SENIOR TOAST
INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
Walter Breau, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs, won a unique door prize March 23 during Elms College's annual day of giving, Blazer Blitz. On May 3, his prize was delivered personally by Chef Kelly Wilkinson, Executive Chef at Elms College. The prize as promoted in Blazer Blitz, was a "unique dessert, custom designed for you by our own Chef Kelly." The custom dessert Dr. Walter Breau requested anything chocolate, so Chef Kelly created three decadent chocolate chip cookies.
