This beginning woodworking course is designed for students interested in developing woodworking skills for a profession or a hobby. It is the course on which further work in cabinetmaking, and carpentry is based. Proper procedures in construction are realized by designing and building projects including the proper use of different joinery, gluing, sanding and finishing techniques. Students will read and apply instructions and execute measurements for proper construction, a foundational skill in any STEM field. Instruction in care, use, and operation of hand tools and power machines is also a vital part of this course. The Construction Career Cluster is investigated and a study is made of present and future possibilities in these career fields.
