PROCESS OF VIA
Due to the covid-19 restrictions, we were faced with many restrictions on the activities we could do as well as the number of beneficiaries we could interact with if we were to conduct our VIA physically. Hence, we decided to have our VIA online.
Firstly, we had to contact multiple organisations to express our interests in working with them to help their beneficiaries. Our countless email replies consisted of proposed projects we could undertake, with few of them being quickly rejected by the organisations due to various reasons.
We then quickly decided to join an existing project that has been conducted by Youth Corps Singapore multiple times. The project was joined by many experienced individual volunteers that enjoy volunteering during their own leisure time, hence we took the opportunity to pick up different skills from them.
OVERVIEW OF VIA
In order to prepare us to interact effectively with the children, we had a mock practice session with the organisation and with our breakout groups to ensure that we know how to communicate accordingly to the children. The skills we picked up include: how to praise the children, grab their attention, or how to excite them, etc. The more experienced volunteers were extremely eager to feedback on our mock session and gave every individual many pointers on how to improve our communication with the children.

We were given roughly 2 hours of interaction with the kids to teach them basic arts and how to draw.
