WHAT IS THE LATEST WITH SPORTS?
Sacramento County moved back and with it eliminated all indoor training. From EGUSD memo... "With athletics, now that we are in purple, conditioning is to be done outdoors only. All gyms and weight rooms must be closed during purple tier. We can continue to use balls with social distancing, masks, cleaning frequently. Outdoor pods can be up to 27 people, ideally 25 students and 2 coaches."
How Do I Register For Sports?
In an effort to streamline the eligibility process, the athletic department will now be clearing athletes for the 2020-2021 school year. To be cleared, you must TURN IN a current physical dated after May 1st of 2020, AND the confirmation page from athleticclearance.com. That confirmation page is emailed once the registration process is finished. It needs to be signed by both student and parent. The forms can be turned in to the PGHS main office any school day, between 8am and 3 pm.
Schedule This Week
Being "Cleared" does not make you eligible!
Once the required forms (current physical and confirmation page) are turned in and processed, the student athlete will be "cleared," but will not be eligible. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a GPA of 2.0 or better from the most recent grading period prior to the start of their sport. For season 1 athletes (Cross Country, Volleyball, Football,), Quarter 1 grades will be used for initial eligibility. For season 2 athletes (all other sports not listed in season 1), Quarter 2 grades will be used for initial eligibility. Each head coach will be given a list of students who are 'cleared," complete with their gpa. Those with a gpa lower than 2.0 are not eligible to participate based on the standards established by California's high school sports governing body, the CIF.
