We have thoroughly enjoyed our 'Scott of the Antarctic' topic in Year 1. Now that we've found out a little more about Antarctica, we have used junk modelling materials to make our own 'explorer kits'. The children had to work together as a team to design their items, create them and paint them - and they're very proud of the results!
"We made a pair of binoculars with a strap."
"We made a camera and a pair of binoculars with a case."
"We made a silver walkie talkie with buttons."
"We made a lunch box. It had a cup for a drink."
"I made a camera with a tube to look through."
"We made walkie talkies."
"We made walkie talkies."
"We made a lunchbox with a box on the side to hold our binoculars."
This half term we have been learning about Winter and how it affects our wildlife. We followed instructions and worked together as a team to make bird feeders from lard, bird seeds and dried fruit to help birds and other animals around the school during the cold weather.
We have been learning about Antarctica! We have all really enjoyed this topic. To finish our topic we had a go at making a Southern Lights Picture. We had a lot of fun. We look forward to show you our pictures on Open Evening!
Playing Shops and Buying Toys
We have enjoyed playing shops and using real money to buy toys. We are learning about different ways to make amounts of money.
We used 1p,2p,5p,10p and 20p coins. We made amounts by using our skills of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s with the coins.
Well done children - we will keep practicing.
