Y1 HALF TERM 2

Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks!

During our first week back this half term, we have been thinking about FIREWORKS! In English, we have watched firework clips and written firework poetry. In Art, We have had great fun investigating different techniques to create firework shapes.

We tried out different media and techniques.

We practised creating smoky firework shapes using chalk pastels.
We then drew the same shapes in glue then added glitter.

We printed colourful shapes using pipe cleaners and cardboard tubes.

We chose our favourite methods to create our own unique firework picture, complete with building silhouettes.

Have a look at some of our finished art work - isn't it beautiful?

Happy Diwali!

We have had so much fun over the past few weeks learning all about the exciting Hindu festival of DIWALI

We learned the story of Rama and Sita and acted it out using masks. Then we designed and made beautiful clay diva lamps, big enough to hold a candle. Don't they look beautiful?

We designed our diva lamps and then made them from clay.

Then we painted them and added gems and glitter to make them extra special.

We made some beautiful Diwali cards to wish our friends and family a Happy Diwali.

We made colourful rangoli patterns on Purple Mash as well as drawing them in chalk on the floor outisde.

After learning all about the way Hindus often celebrate Diwali, we had to prepare for our own Diwali party! We each prepared a wrap, using our chopping, grating and speading skills, then we made some cupcakes so we had a feast to enjoy at the party.

Finally, we dressed up in our best party clothes for a Diwali party. We played party games, danced and watched fireworks on the screen. We painted our hands with beautiful mehndi patterns and enjoyed the food we had prepared. Yum!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Key Stage 1 Nativity this week. The children were so excited to share our performance with you - and what a fantastic job they did! We're incredibly proud of them, as always!

Have a wonderful Christmas, everyone!
