READING
In Reading we learnt to identify the author's purpose by asking questions about how the text is written and identifying key words. We read an article and completed an I notice and I wonder T-chart. Under I notice we listed key points and facts and under I wonder we listed questions. We learnt how it identify how different authors present information in different ways by examining the features present in a text. Then we complete a Venn diagram locating the similarities and differents between two different articles on the same topic. We learnt the difference between an information text and and a newspaper article.
We have learnt that a newspaper report features includes a headline, subheadings, images, captions and keywords. We also watched a BTN news article on Anzac Day to determine how videos can be informative. We took notes while watching the video to create an infographic about ANZAC Day using our notes.
WRITING
In Writing we started the week by using our writer's notebook and brainstorming different information topics we are interested in that we could use to write an newspaper report about. We then chose a topic to unpack to write a newspaper article about. Our next step was to start researching our topic and we created a word bank of technical words to use in our newspaper article.
We then learn to sort ideas into paragraphs by creating subheadings for different ideas. We learnt that a paragraph starts with a topic sentence and then use supporting details related to the topic to write a paragraph.
Lastly we used a graphic organiser to start planning a newspaper article on our chosen topic.
MATHS
In Maths we learnt to divide by using the powers of 10. We did this by using place value charts to understand the number system.
We also learnt to represent and write tenths in decimals format. We modelled fractions on a fraction wall and then wrote the corresponding decimal. We also learnt to order decimals on a numberline.
CBL
In CBL we demonstrated our knowledge about our new topic this term by brainstorming and creating a mind map all we know to answer the essential question - How does understanding Earth and space help us care for our world and how do we make responsible choices to protect it?
Next we explored how medicine is a part of our daily lives. We brainstormed what we already know about medicines and then in small groups we researched and took notes about different medicines and how they improve our lives.
PERSONAL & SOCIAL/RRRR
This week we started a unit on e-safety. In our first session we learnt about online boundaries and consent. We practised different scenarios of how to give and refuse consent. We learnt that the things we say and do online can upset and hurt others. We identified different rules/boundaries players can agree to so they can play together respectfully and have fun online.
YEAR 4 SPORT
We recommence Year 4 sport this week. Year 4 sport is held on Thursday in Session 4. This term we are participating in games with another class. Below is the timetable for the term.
ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY
On Friday 24th April we attended a whole school assembly for Anzac Day. It was led by Mrs Schafer and the ACPS leaders. We created a wreath which was placed at the front by two representative from each class. We attended to honour and remember the courage, sacrifice, and service of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have served our country. Through this assembly, we demonstrated respect and deepened our understanding of the importance of remembrance, helping our school community reflect on the values of bravery, mateship, and gratitude.
