In the first two weeks we completed the Learning to Learn unit. During this unit we unpacked the school values - Respect, Responsibility, Achievement and Teamwork and how these are achieved inside and outside the classroom. We also looked at the importance of using a growth mindset when completing tasks. We discussed the Zones of Regulations and developed Wellbeing plans and determined 5 safe adults we can ask for help at school
In Numeracy we have started incorporating fluency activites where we get to practice skills learnt. We have been learning strategies to help us solve addition problems. We have been learning about the jump strategy using a numberline, spilt strategy and partitioning. We will also use these strategies to help solve subtraction problems.
In Reading we have been reading fractured fairytales. We have explored how characters can be changed to create a different version of a story. For example we can change character's behaviour, personality, role or point of view and appearance and read different fractured fairytales and compared and contrasted them to the original version to find similarities and differences.
In Writing we have been developing our writing technique of show not tell. We have been using sensory details, actions, and dialogue in a scene, rather than merely stating facts or emotions. We ave also been unpacking and developing our own characters to use in a fractured fairytale.
We have started our investigations in our geography unit. Our Big Idea for this term is Community. Throughout this unit we will research and find answers to our essential question How do the natural features, environment and climate of a place shape the communities that live there and the way they care for it? Our focus will be on Australia. We made a mind map of all the communities we are part of and discussed man-made and natural features in these communities.
