Staff value community engagement as an essential component of building a positive school community
Engagement in our school by parents, carers, volunteers and community helps children achieve the best possible learning outcomes. Parents, carers and community will be provided opportunities to participate in school life, both formally and informally, through school council, volunteering and staying up to date with news about what is happening in their child's education via our newsletter, seesaw, website, Compass, emails, phone calls and SSG meetings.
The school will support families to engage in their child’s learning and build their capacity as active learners. Yarrabah is an environment that welcomes all parents/carers and is responsive to them as partners in learning.
Yarrabah School will ensure that the unique experiences and skills of our students’ families and volunteers enrich the learning environment and the school community.
We aim to improve staff trust in students and parents factor results from 50% in 2022 to 75% in 2026.
The school will create successful partnerships with parents/carers and volunteers by:
ensuring all parents/carers are aware of the school’s Student Welfare Policy
implementing a complaints resolution policy
conducting effective school-to-home and home-to-school communications (communication protocols)
providing volunteer opportunities that enhance and promote student learning (volunteer policy and information)
involving families with homework and other curriculum and extra curricula-related activities (Link It Policy)
involving families as participants in school decision-making (school council)
coordinating resources and services from the community for families, students and the school (Community Hub)
providing opportunities to enhance support, volunteer and learner knowledge and skills (Community Hub).
