Learning intention:
You will be able to identify and describe texture in a piece of music.
Success criteria:
I can aurally identify the use of texture in a piece.
I can hear how texture changes between sections and its impact on the emotive outcome.
I can Identify and describe the expressive element of texture.
I can describe how texture can be used to create interest and excitement in a piece.
In a general context, how would you define texture?
How could this relate to the music we listen to?
Discuss this with the person next to you and see what they think!
Below you will find a powerpoint that we will work through together as a class. We will be listening to different examples of songs that use texture as a focal point. We will learn some key terms to use when describing texture in any given song and how we can apply this to a performance.
After working through the powerpoint presentation, you will be required to complete one texture task as described in the next section of this page.
There are two google doc assessment tasks on google classroom titled "Texture Task 1" and "Texture Task 2", which requires you to select from a set of vocabulary describing the texture of the selected work (link to the song is in the assignment and google doc). You will then be required to put your selected vocabulary into sentences and a paragraph discussing your thoughts and opinions regarding the texture of the work.
I would recommend using the powerpoint above as a reference and have the vocabulary available to use.
Both tasks must be completed by the end of the week.
I have:
Completed all theory tasks on google classroom before the holidays.
Created a three section piece of music on bandlab.
Uploaded your bandlab song to google classroom.
Selected your trio song with your band and found required resources.
