Learning Intention:
You will be able to discuss the various uses of a DAW and use the basic functions of BandLab as a compositional tool.
Success Criteria:
I Can...
Describe the purpose of a digital audio workstation and its various uses.
Create an account and join the ECSC BandLab account.
Use the basic functions of BandLab including importing loops.
Use the keyboard function in BandLab to input notes from the major scale.
Compose an 8 bar melody over three loops.
Interactive composition content for the week:
Digital Audio Workstations are the industry standard software programs that sound engineers and producers use to capture performances, record music and compose using a variety of sound sources and materials.
This week we will be learning about a number of DAW's, but focusing on using the program "BandLab", which is a free online DAW that allows you to compose and record music, as well as share your ideas and compositions with your friends and class-mates.
Use the following link to join the Edgar's Creek year 10 music BandLab!
Before we begin learning about digital audio workstations and learning the basics of BandLab, lets watch a video outlining what a DAW is and how it can be used in various musical situations.

Interactive composition task for the week:
This week you will be required to compose an 8 bar melody using the major scale. The melody must be written for a melodic instrument and have a repetitive idea (we will discuss in class).
Your short composition must include:
1x drum loop
1x harmonic instrument (instrument performing chords)
1x other loop of your choice
Once you have written your composition, you will be required to 'bounce' your composition and hand in the audio track to google classroom using the assignment "8-bar melody task".
I have:
Watched all required videos and taken notes either on my device or in my music book
Created a BandLab education account and joined the ECSC year 10 BandLab classroom
Applied the knowledge developed during class to input notes and add loops to a BandLab session
Created an 8-bar melody over 3 loops, bounced the track and handed it in via google classroom
EXITING THE CLASS - LAST 5 MINUTES
NO ONE leaves until:
All equipment is wiped down, tidied up and packed away safely as instructed by the teacher.
Rubbish off the floor, white board cleaned, doors and windows locked.
Tables and chairs reset.
Classroom is tidy.
Wait for teacher instruction
THANK YOU in advance for this.
