In this unit, Foundation students explore common fruits in Mandarin Chinese through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They learn fruit vocabulary and practise saying what they like using simple sentences such as 'I like + fruit'. Students build confidence interacting in Chinese and begin to understand how language connects to personal experiences and culture.
Year 1/2
In this unit, Year 1 and 2 students explore shopping in Chinese, focusing on asking prices and expressing simple buying intentions. They learn key phrases like '多少钱?(How much is it?)' and '我要…(I want...)'. Through role-plays, songs, and games, students build confidence using spoken Chinese in a market-style setting, practising how to ask and answer questions in everyday contexts.
Year 3/4
In this unit, students learn numbers 0–100 in Chinese, developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. They practise recognising and writing number characters and apply their knowledge through interactive activities like creating and playing snakes and ladders, enhancing both language accuracy and cultural understanding.
Year 5/6
In this unit, students explore food and drink within Chinese restaurant settings. They expand their vocabulary related to food, fruit, and beverages, and practise asking and answering questions used when ordering meals. Students also learn to express simple dietary needs and preferences, while gaining an understanding of Chinese dining customs and cultural practices associated with eating out.
