Year Foundation
Foundation students will be introduced to Numbers and the Dragon Boat Festival. They will learn numbers 0–10 in Chinese, practise pronunciation and recognise Chinese characters. They will also explore traditions such as dragon boat racing and eating Zongzi.
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 students will continue the learning of Hanyu Pinyin and tones. They will develop their four skills in this unit and know the basic rules of the spelling system and learn more initials and finals. They will also explore traditions and activities of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Year 3/4
In this term, Year 3 and 4 students are learning common occupations in Chinese. Students will learn to ask and answer ‘What do you want to be?’ and respond using ‘I want to be…’ in Chinese. They will also explore traditional and modern jobs in China, comparing them with Australia.
Year 5/6
The main learning focus for Year 5 and 6 students is self-introduction in Chinese. Students will learn key phrases and sentence structures to introduce themselves. The unit culminates in a presentation where students are encouraged to introduce themselves in Chinese.
